Exclusive Look: ‘School of Dragons’ ‘Race to the Edge’ Expansion Pack

As part of my visit to the DreamWorks campus in Glendale, I got a behind-the-scenes look at the totally immersive world of School of Dragons, the How to Train Your Dragon app released in July 2013 from JumpStart (of Math Blaster fame) that takes players into the Dragon Riders’ world with exciting quests and exclusive content.

The game, created for grade-school students to enhance their science education and which runs on multiple devices, was updated this past April with the Icestorm Island: Arctic Expansion Pack. This expansion pack features exclusive content, quests up to new education standards, new characters, a Groncicle dragon, an archeologist Viking, and an exciting new narrative foreshadowing the upcoming Netflix series Dragons: Race to the Edge.

An entirely new expansion pack will be added to the game in early July that will intertwine the game and the narrative introduced in Dragons: Race to the Edge after it drops its first thirteen episodes on Netflix this week.

School for Dragons emphasizes science education integration with having fun and learning more about the world of How to Train Your Dragon; players can farm, fish, and use essential – but also basic scientific – principles as they complete in-game tasks.

In addition to the seamless online and mobile gameplay offered by this cross-platform app – PC, iOS, and Android devices included – the School of Dragons app features extensive customization options. Personal avatars can be customized with hundreds of different features to create thousands of possible unique characters. And, while you can’t play as a character from the series, your avatar can look as close to Astrid, Snotlout, Ruffnut, Tuffnut, or any other favorite character, as you want.

Connect with fellow dragon trainers by joining Viking clans, and socialize safely with highly moderated chatting and messaging. Ready to put your training to the test? Try the thrilling dragon-racing competition.

There are hours of entertaining quest-based gameplay; players can complete each mission in School of Dragons to become a master dragon trainer and ultimate Viking adventurer!

With a new expansion pack set to catapult players into the new series of Dragons: Race to the Edge, the School of Dragons app is sure to get more intense and more fun than ever before. Check it out on almost any device, or even Facebook, and be sure to keep your eyes open for the Race to the Edge expansion pack!

What do you think? Do you play School of Dragons, or know someone who does?
