Minions, Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment’s semi-prequel/spinoff of the Despicable Me franchise, will hit theaters in roughly three months. For fans who want to spend more time with this universe beyond the big screen this news might be of interest.
From Comic Book Resources and stemming from The Hollywood Reporter, Illumination Entertainment teamed up with British comic book publisher Titan Comics (an imprint of Titan Books) to publish a line of comics and graphic novels based on the upcoming film.
Tying in with the release of the film, the deal will include a four-issue series, two digest collections, two hardcover editions, and a paperback collection. Renaud Collin and Didier Ah-Koon (both animators at Illumination) will be tasked with the job of writing and illustrating the comics.
Titan publisher Nick Landau said in a statement that the company is “so excited to be part of this wonderful franchise.”
This wouldn’t be the first time that Titan dipped its toes into licensed comics, as they previously published a (surprisingly descent) four-issue comic series based on DreamWorks’ Penguins of Madagascar.
The line will launch June 17, with the first issue sold digitally and at your nearest comic book store (the first digest collection in bookstores).

Minions will land in theaters on July 10.
What do you think? Any thoughts on this news? Will you buy these comics when they come out?
