Oblivion - UK Premiere - Red Carpet Arrivals

Last week, we reported on a scoop from Vancity Buzz that essentially confirmed that Disney was going full speed ahead on the production of TRON 3. Now we have a report that should all but confirm that TRON 3 is really happening.

Courtesy of Screen Rant and stemming from The Hollywood Reporter, Walt Disney has indeed confirmed that Joseph Krasinski will be back to direct the third installment in the TRON franchise.

As reported before, Disney appears to be eyeing a fall 2015 production start date. Like TRON: Legacy, the film will be shot in Vancouver.

TRON 3 won’t be the only film to shoot in Vancouver. Paramount Pictures’ Star Trek 3, Warner Bros./DC’s Suicide Squad, and Universal Pictures’ Pacific Rim 2 have also booked Vancouver as a shooting location.

This all comes as Kosinski was recently announced as the director for an upcoming adaptation of the Gran Turismo video game franchise. It’s likely that he may begin work on Gran Turismo and other projects he’s attached to after completing TRON 3.

As reported before, Garrett Hedlund will reprise his role as Sam Flynn, with Olivia Wilde and Bruce Boxleitner expected to return as well. The film will be a darker installment, with Krasinski calling it the Empire Strikes Back of the franchise. I also personally echo the opinion of others when I say I definitely hope that Daft Punk returns to score the soundtrack.

TRON 3 will begin production in the fall for an as-of-yet unknown release date.

What do you think? Any thoughts on Kosinski’s return to the director’s chair for TRON 3?
