‘Toy Story That Time Forgot’ Airs Tomorrow!

It’s been more than a year since we last got a new Pixar production to enjoy. It’s been a turbulent year for Pixar fans but things are starting to look up, especially with the premiere of Toy Story That Time Forgot TOMORROW on ABC at 8/7c. This will be the second Toy Story TV special after last year’s fantastic Toy Story of Terror and it’s the first time we’ll see our beloved characters since Pixar announced there would be a fourth film in the series.

Summary

“During a post-Christmas play date, the Toy Story gang find themselves in uncharted territory when the coolest set of action figures ever turn out to be dangerously delusional. Interviews

In a series of interviews Collider did with the cast and crew of the TV Special, we learned a bunch of interesting things like the fact that it only took about 2 years to produce the entire short film. As the director, Steve Purcell, points out, that’s pretty quickly compared to a feature film. In the interview, Purcell also highlights the importance of the story reel, and how they try to cut and move everything in that stage and not when they’re already animating.

He also speaks about casting and the experiences of working with such a talented cast, since regulars Tom Hanks (Woody), Tim Allen (Buzz), Wallace Shawn (Rex), Timothy Dalton (Mr. Pricklepants), Don Rickles (Mr. Potato Head) and Joan Cusack (Jessie) are joined by Kevin McKidd, who plays Reptillus Maximus. Another fun fact we learned was that after casting McKidd, Purcell had a conversation with John Lasseter and they decided all Battlesaurs should be British.

But the story revolves around Trixie (Kristen Schaal), continuing the trend of rotating the spotlight between all supporting characters in these short films. Her way of looking at things will clash with the Battlesaurs’ way of life and that will be the driving conflict of the story. As Wallace Shawn puts it in an interview:

“Our guys are the innocent Americans that some of us wish we were, and the Battlesaurs are what America really is.  It’s a tug-o-war between the impulse to dominate others with brute violence, and Trixie’s attempt to present a more peaceful alternative that’s another way of having fun.”
