Could we be seeing a familiar animated duo heading to the small screen in the near future?
That’s what it looks like according to a recent post on The Animation Guild blog gathering information about union animation work happening in LA and the current progress of various TV shows and movies from various studios in the area.
At the end of the list of projects in development under Dreamworks Television Animation is a Mr. Peabody & Sherman TV series, now currently set for a rather generous “78-episode order”. We can presume that this is being developed for Netflix, where DreamWorks already has a tight grip on original programming for children.
While not a box office winner, the movie was one of the better animated comedies this year, providing a relatively fun update of the classic Jay Ward creation. If it’s true that a TV series is currently being developed, than it looks like DWA is taking the Turbo route with the property: a not-so-successful film finding new life on the small screen. It’s also worth noting that Turbo FAST has been relatively well received as of late.
Again, if this is true in any form, it will be the ninth TV show joining DreamWorks’ ever-growing lineup of original programming for Netflix, which already includes Dinotrux, The Croods (“sizable Netflix order”), a new VeggieTales (lots of Netflix episodes), Puss In Boots, King Julian (“large Netflix order”), and the new seasons of Dreamworks Dragons, which is currently is set for a “58-episode order”, which is odd because both seasons will be 26 episodes each.
More on this story as it develops.
What are your thoughts? What do you think of DWA’s huge Netflix lineup?
