Warner Animation Group got off to more than fine start with this year’s The Lego Movie, a critical and commercial smash that already has a sequel and a spin-off set in stone. However, prior to The Lego Movie‘s opening, the studio had announced that original projects were part of its game plan, but then we began hearing about animated films based on Hanna-Barbera properties like Scooby-Doo and The Flintstones.

Before today’s announcements, its slate consisted of Ninjago (9/23/2016), The Lego Movie 2 (5/26/2017) and two untitled productions set for 2/10/2017 and 2/9/2018 respectively. Now, two more untitled projects have been added. One is slated for 5/25/2018, the other is set to open 5/24/2019.

The only original projects we know that are in development at Warner Animation Group are Doug Sweetland’s Storks and Sergio Pablos’ Smallfoot. An adaptation of Jeff Smith’s Bone is also in development at Animal Logic, the studio that did the animation for Lego Movie along with Happy Feet and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole.

UPDATE: Sources are saying that the two untitled projects will in fact be, no shock, LEGO films! However, said sources say that things could change. That can’t be ruled, because again, there are other original projects lined up at WB. Unless it claims more dates. After all, Warner Bros. opted for February releases for other films in its pipeline.

Do you think that the original projects we currently know about will be the 5/25/2018 and 5/24/2019 releases? Will they be LEGO films? Or will films we’ve never heard of end up in those slots? What do you think of Warner Animation Group’s plans and future?
