In this Pixar-barren year, every little nugget of information we get is precious. And with the San Diego Comic-Con upon us, this is the time of the year to get information on the beloved studio’s next projects. Today, we got loads of new information on Toy Story That Time Forgot, the 30-minute special that will air December 2nd on ABC.

In a panel featuring Kristen Schaal (the voice of Trixie), director Steve Purcell (co-director of Brave), head of story Derek Thompson, executive producer Galyn Susman and moderated by Michael Giacchino, the entire team gave the fans loads of new information about the second Toy Story TV Special.

Story

The story follows some of our favorite toys when Bonnie takes them over to a friend’s house. The friend, called Mason (reports on the character being named after our very own Mason are unconfirmed), just got a video game for Christmas and isn’t paying attention to his new toys, which include a set of Battlesaurs. Trixie is super excited to meet new dinosaurs and she will co-lead the special, following the tradition of giving the spotlight to a different toy in every short film and special to keep things fresh.

But you see, the Battlesaurs don’t realize they’re toys. They spend their time fighting in the Arena of Woe and beat up other toys. Their leader, Reptillius Maximus, voiced by Kevin McKidd (Lord MacGuffin, in Brave) is the other star of the special. IGN describes him as a nice version of Gaston. He’s got skills, he’s handsome, charming and he seems to have a crush on Trixie.

In typical Pixar fashion, even though the Battlesaurs are kind of absurd, they fleshed out their world to the tiniest detail. They have a hierarchy, there are clerics, scientists and Raptorian Guards, who are kind of like Stormtroopers. Most importantly, there is a reason why they are warriors and fight other toys.

A couple of clips were shown and well received by the Comic-Con audience. It seems the special isn’t a Christmas special, per se. It happens little after Christmas but it’s not fully Christmas-flavored. Joan Cusack, the voice of Jessie, will voice Angel Kitty, an adorable ornament-toy and Giacchino will provide the score. And if you like the special, Mattel will release a line of 4-inch action figures featuring Trixie and Rex in battle armor and several Battlesaurs too.
