If you’ve been up to date on the latest in tech, you may have heard of a wildly successful, insanely aggravating mobile game called Flappy Bird. Famous for its difficulty level, the game registered millions upon millions of downloads back in January and February 2014, before the game’s creator Dong Nguyen decided to take it down following its crazy popularity.
Last month, Nguyen tweeted that the game will be back, and will be better than ever. This week, we have confirmation that, owing to its surge in popularity, Flappy Bird will be following in the footsteps of another famous bird-based mobile game, Angry Birds, and will now be made into a full-length animated feature to be released direct to DVD.
The game company, GEARS Studios, released the following synopsis for the planned movie:
“Flappy Bird’s first movie will feature a young misfit bird named Flappy, who only yearns for one thing- to see the world. However there is one thing holding him back from his dreams, the rampant urbanization in his city has left his neighborhood riddled with solid lead pipes. It’s up to Flappy and his feathered friends to put an end to the destruction of their homes and overcome their own fears”
From the synopsis, its clear that the movie will follow the gameplay, in fact, expanding upon it and giving the vacant-eyed bird his own fleshed out character. It’s also evident that the movie will follow an environment-friendly theme. No release date has been announced, but since it’s direct to DVD, expect it as early as the end of 2014 or early 2015! A successful first movie could also ensure sequels and a TV series, much like Angry Birds.
