Yesterday DreamWorks released a sneak peak of the new How to Train Your Dragon 2 trailer and today the full trailer was released a few hours ago Awesomeness TV’s YouTube Channel. And let’s just say, it looks epic! Watch the trailer below.
But beware, unfortunately, there are MAJOR SPOILERS between 1:10 and 1:35. So definitely skip those if you’re avoiding crucial plot spoilers.
The trailer starts out with Hiccup and Toothless on picturesque forest ledge that overlooks the ocean. Toothless is pouting for some reason, so Hiccup tries to wrestle him without much luck. I love seeing their relationship and how comfortable they are with each other. I’m also loving Hiccup’s new teenage design. He’s very studly and might be the new animation heartthrob. I may even like it more than his original design.
We’re then reintroduced to the new Berk, that has now gone away from being scared of and killing dragons, to cohabitating peacefully with them. The whole mood and atmosphere of the town has done a 180 from the first film: happy, colorful and lively. We also catch a glimpse of Hiccup flying solo with a new human-wing invention of his, a reused scene we saw a bit of in the first trailer.
Now, the next part of the trailer, I’m going to completely gloss over since the animation community is up in arms about unacceptable amount of spoilers and plot it gives away. Simply, Hiccup and Astrid are flying, they see some sort of destruction in which Astrid asks, “Who could have done this?” A mysterious masked figure appears and…that’s where I’ll stop.
Skipping ahead to 1:35, we see Cate Blanchett’s character Valka, the mysterious woman who was revealed to us a few days ago in a new still. She lives in a luscious forest, which she has turned into a sanctuary to save dragons.
But we don’t focus much on her because the trailer moves to the main conflict, a foreign threat that is capturing dragons. The town of Berk is under attack from a fleet of Viking ships, so the peace doesn’t last long since they brought their large army with them. The rest of the trailer is action and flying sequence after sequence, making me excited to see the final film this summer.
Besides the spoilery parts, this was a fantastic trailer. The marketing campaign for How To Train Your Dragon 2 has been spot on, drumming up excitement at appropriate times before the film’s release.
How to Train Your Dragon 2 will release in theatres June 13, 2014
