the-blue-umbrella-official-poster-hi-resAs we reported yesterday, Disney has been releasing the scripts of their movies in hopes of scoring a Best Original Screenplay nomination. After the Frozen script, now you can now download the scripts of both Pixar’s Monsters University and, interestingly, The Blue Umbrellla.

Usually, Pixar’s shorts have no scripts. As few of them have dialogue and depend so much on the visuals, Pixar skips the screenwriting and jumps straight to storyboarding. But The Blue Umbrella has a script and it’s an odd one. It seems director Saschka Unseld didn’t follow any kind of screenwriting format, choosing instead to write a kind of song/poem describing what we’d eventually see on screen.

The Blue Umbrella is probably Pixar’s second weirdest script, placing behind Wall-E‘s awe inspiring screenplay. While Andrew Stanton did follow the usual rules while writing Wall-E, the film’s lack of dialogue made him find an almost lyrical way of describing what was happening in the story. If you have any interest in screenwriting, Wall-E is a must-read.

Movies like Toy Story, The Lion King and Aladdin made him fall in love with the art form and now he hopes to dedicate his life to telling stories, hopefully for Pixar (if they go back to doing original films). Some of his ambitions are making a movie as emotionally impacting as Toy Story 3, meeting JK Rowling, and petting a million dogs. Follow him on Twitter (@PabloRV7).
