Sony and Rovio have just announced that Clay Kaytis and Fergal Reilly will be co-directing Angry Birds for a July 1st, 2016 release. This will be an official directorial debut for both Kaytis and Reilly whom have worked on past projects for Disney, Sony, and Warner Bros. as animators.
Clay Kaytis started The Animation Podcast way back in 2005, but some of Kaytis’ most recent projects include animation work on The Emperor’s New Groove, Wreck-It-Ralph, Paperman, and Frozen. Reilly has worked on The Iron Giant, Spider-Man 2, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, and Hotel Transylvania among many others.
Fergal Reilly was slated to co-direct The Familiars with Doug Sweetland which is also a Sony production, but that film seems to still be in development whereas Angry Birds is now in full swing.
We are extremely excited to see how this will all turn out, and give a warm congratulations to both Kaytis and Reilly as they achieve their dreams of working as animation directors!
