A new trailer was released for Blue Sky Studios’ animated sequel Rio 2.
The trailer shows our favorite blue macaws, Blu and Jewel, have expanded their family with the addition of three children. Jewel wants her children to experience the real Brazil, so she and Blu take them on a journey to the Amazon. Upon arriving, they discover a colony of blue macaws and happen to be Jewel’s family. The first movie was a hit for the studio, so there were worries whether a sequel would be as successful as the first. But based on this trailer, those doubts can be put aside. For the most part,
Rio 2 doesn’t seem like an attempt to rehash what made
Rio a success. We still get to see familiar elements such as the excitement of Rio de Janeiro, while also being smartly introduced to a new environment of the Amazon rain forest. Blu is still awkward, yet loving; Jewel is smart, independent and a great mom. But now we have new (and old) birds in town who will help to amp up the drama.
Rio 2 hits theatres April 11, 2014.
