The Computer History Museum will induct Pixar co-founder Ed Catmull into their Hall of Fellows, NetworkWorld reports. Catmull is famous for his key contributions to Pixar’s RenderMan, the software the Animation Studio uses for all of their movies. But it’s not a Pixar-exclusive software, 45 out of the last 47 movies that have been nominated for the Academy Awards in the Visual Effects categories have used RenderMan.
The official statement made by the museum states “His pioneering work in computer graphics, animation and filmmaking” as the reasons for his induction. Ed Catmull is also the President of both Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios. You know, those teeny tiny independent studios that recently won both of the Animation Academy Awards.
Congratulations!
