Internet Explodes Over ‘Toy Story 4’ Hoax

Alas, as much as we’d all prefer to think otherwise, you can’t believe everything you read on the Internet.

A South American news site reported Tuesday it had confirmation from Pixar of Toy Story 4, for a supposed 2015 release. The news spread like wildfire, and social media users were beside themselves. Celebratory statuses and memes galore helped push Toy Story 4 to one of Tuesday’s top trending topics on Twitter, but it was all for naught. There are no plans for another full-length Toy Story installment, as Pixar later told Buzz Feed.

Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time that Twitter has been ablaze with wild Toy Story rumors, despite the obscurity of the initial source and the multiple other reasons why a fourth film doesn’t add up. It seems that once something like this grabs attention, it’s nearly impossible to pacify the excitement. That in itself is just as much a reflection of today’s immediate communication as it is the public’s genuine adoration for Pixar’s characters. People were ecstatic; they want more.

And more they’ll get, just not in another movie. Three Toy Story Toons already released theatrically (all of which can be viewed in full online), with more on the way. Additionally, two half-hour television specials are in the works. Animation World Network broke last fall that the first of these, Toy Story of Terror, will debut this October. These vehicles allow Woody and Buzz to live on and continue to entertain families without the pressure of another full-blown sequel.
