It’s no surprise that after the massive box office success of Sony Picture Animation’s Hotel Transylvania that the studio has announced that a sequel is in the workds.
Hotel Transylvania 2 is set for a September 25, 2012 release date. Obviously, Sony is trying to emulate the film’s surprising September box office success that has raked in over $253 million worldwide. September was a perfect time to release the film as families started gearing up for Halloween. The monster-themed movie continued to have legs well into October as the nation’s haunted festivities continued to grow.
The film is still quite early in development; however, director Genndy Tartakovsky will not be returning to direct the sequel as he’s currently tied up working on the Sony’s CGI Popeye film, which will be released one year earlier on September 26, 2014. No word yet on if the voice cast (featuring Adam Sandler, Andy Samberg, Kevin James, and Selena Gomez) will reprise their roles.
What are your thoughts on a Hotel Transylvania sequel? Good idea or bad idea?
