DreamWorks-Dragons-Riders-of-BerkNext month, DreamWorks Animation will be debuting the TV series DreamWorks Dragons: Riders of Berk, a spin-off of its popular film How to Train Your Dragon, on the Canadian cartoon network TELETOON.

The new series will revolve around the adventurs of Hiccup and his dragon Toothless. The characters will be voiced by Jay Baruchel, America Ferrera, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, T.J. Miller, Tim Conway, Chris Edgerly, Mark Hamill, Julie Marcus, Nolan North, Zack Pearlman, Stephen Root and Tom Wilson.

DreamWorks will kick off DreamWorks Dragons: Riders of Berk on November 3 by debuting two episodes back to back after a broadcast of How to Train Your Dragon. After the initial premiere, the series will air Thursday nights at 6:30 pm.

DreamWorks has experienced incredible success with its other spin-off series such as The Penguins of Madagascar and Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness. It seems a no-brainer that this new series will be a hit for DreamWorks considering the film its based on was such a commercial hit ($495 million worldwide box-office gross, anyone?). It’s interesting that DreamWorks has chosen to debut this series in Canada instead of the United States, which is a much bigger market.

While I’m excited for this series, I worry that DreamWorks could dilute the How to Train Your Dragon brand with too many ventures. In addition to the new TV series, there are already two sequels in development set for a 2014 and 2016 release. The series could either do two things: continue to maintain and grow interest or oversaturate consumers with too much Dragon.

Will you toon into the debut of DreamWorks Dragons: Riders of Berk? Do you think this will help the brand or hurt it? Sound off in the comments below!
