The first trailer for the upcoming animated film, Sherlock Gnomes, has debuted:

The sequel to the 2011 sleeper hit, Gnomeo & Juliet, Sherlock Gnomes continues the story of garden gnomes who come to life when their “owners” are not present. After the gnomes from the first film, including Gnomeo (James McAvoy) and Juliet (Emily Blunt) are moved to a new garden, many of them start to disappear. Gnomeo and Juliet then enlist the help of a detective gnome, Sherlock Gnomes (Johnny Depp), and his assistant, Watson (Chiwetel Ejiofor), to solve the mystery.

While the first film was produced by Disney via their Touchstone Pictures label, Sherlock Gnomes will be produced by Paramount Animation, Rocket Pictures, and Metro-Goldwayn-Mayer. The film is being directed by John Stevenson (Kung Fu Panda) and is set to hit theaters on March 23, 2018.

What do you think of the trailer? Do you think it captures the feel of its predecessor? Or does it evoke a “What the Fertilizer?” reaction? Did Gnomeo & Juliet need a sequel or has the time for that passed? Let us know in the comments below!

About Mark Brown

Mark is currently a university student in his early 20s pursuing a degree in computer science. He grew up watching many of the films from the Disney Renaissance, which further fueled his passion for animated films (as well as for Disney itself). And as a result of that, his favorite animated film of all time is Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.
  • This trailer kinda sums up why many adults stereotype animation as a children’s “genre.” Movies like Sherlock Gnomes aren’t helping. Side note- can’t wait for Coco.

It’s like they had a competition for butt jokes in a trailer. 😲🤦‍♂️🤦‍♀️😞

  • On the whole, it looks kind of decent, but man,
some of those jokes were just so cringe-worthy.

  • JamScoBal

The audio was a little distorted. I haven’t heard audio problems in a trailer since Hotel Transylvania 2.

  • I mean I thought the first one was cute, but I just think this looks sorta not good?
It just looks a lot more generic than the first…

I think they’re running out of ideas.

    “No SHIP Sherlock”
Yup adult men wrote this and spent millions of dollars to make it in the movie.
    Enjoying the paycheck Mcavoy ?

Gardens Gnomes and Detectives are as related as Cars and Spy parodies.

    Oh gnome…

I for one quiet enjoyed Gnomeo and Juliet, but why did this need a sequel? Yet alone one from a completely different studio? This groan-inducing trailer alone is as stereotypical as you can get for animated marketing. I will admit Mikros Image did great job with the animation, but… thats about it.

Seriously Paramount, you can do much better than this for your animation division.
