Lin-Manuel Miranda Joins ‘DuckTales’ Reboot

No, you did not misread that headline! And neither did I when I read five different variations on it today! Singer, songwriter, composer, and actor, Lin-Manuel Miranda – of Hamilton, Moana, and even Star Wars fame – has joined Disney XD’s upcoming reboot of DuckTales as the mechanically enhanced crime fighter, GizmoDuck!

As GizmoDuck is a superhero, he will of course have a secret identity, which Miranda will also be performing, Fenton Crackshell-Cabrera, who is interning for Gyro Gearloose. If you are a fan of the original show, you may be wondering about the hyphenated surname, but co-producer Francisco Angones explains:

“Growing up as a Cuban-American comics enthusiast, I was always hungry for a Latino hero to call my own. In developing the new series, Matt [Youngberg] and I leapt at the opportunity to adapt ‘DuckTales’ marquee hero into a young scientist character with Latin-inspired roots.”

In addition to the casting announcement, we also got a look at the designs for Miranda’s character.

You will be able to hear Miranda in DuckTales when it premieres this summer on Disney XD. GizmoDuck is set to be a recurring character in the series which is already confirmed to have at least two seasons.

What do you think of this news? Are you excited to hear Miranda in the new DuckTales series?

  • Fingers crossed this means we’ll get a musical episode! :p

I’m hoping we get one for Tangled too as we go along

  • Manuel Orozco

This doubles my anticipation for the show. I loved Miranda’s music for Moana! Hopefully Ducktales can get off to just as great of a start as Tangled: The Series is.

  • Not that excited for DT, but I’m sure Miranda will do a good vocal performance.

    • Manuel Orozco

At first I wasn’t excited either but I got on board the hype train after seeing the teaser on Disney XD.

    • Manuel Orozco

Also hate to switch topics but I watched Planes Fire and Rescue two weeks ago I loved it

      • I will say this. Fire and Rescue was a huge improvement over the first one.

        • Manuel Orozco

I guess as ususal we can agree on it. I’m just telling you because I’m excited for Cars 3 I just had to watch Fire and Rescue.

  • I love this guy SO MUCH and this sounds exciting!! Can’t wait to see how he sounds in the show!! :DDD

All good news. Nice that one field still has good news. The rest of the world may be going to pot, but at least you can go to the animation world and there’s always something cool. Anyhoo, good design and nice that he’s going to be part Latino.

    • Manuel Orozco

What do you mean by going to pot and I agree there is still escapism in this world.

      • Jeremiah

Oh, I mean Trump. And that’s coming from a Republican. (And all the other stuff. You know, Brexit, Marine Le Penn almost winning office, blah blah.) I feel kinda bad, nobody ever mentions Trump here. Everyone seems to try and keep this place kind of a haven. Oh well.

Well entertainment should always be our solace from today’s political climate.

          • Jeremiah

Especially lovingly done entertainment that makes us laugh and think. 🙂

          • Manuel Orozco

Like maybe Ducktales will provide the amount of entertainment value.

But I can agree good animation is not easy to find these days but you sometimes to look hard for it on the big or small screen.

Interesting choice. My dream casting would have been Jeremy Piven. His role as Ari Gold always reminded me of Fenton.
