The cover of The Art of Rio 2 was revealed a few days ago, showing our favorite blue macaws, Blu and Jewel. The official title of the book is The Art of Rio: Featuring a Carnival of Art From Rio and Rio 2. So this is actually not only an art book for the sequel, but also will showcase the art from the original movie.

The cover is pretty basic and simple. It doesn’t show any concept art from Rio 2, but rather shows just the fully rendered characters. It’s not my favorite cover. I would have liked to see the concept art highlighted much like The Art of Monsters University and The Art of Frozen.

It’s great to see Blue Sky Studios join the art book game. Epic was the first art book they released for their films and, with the release of The Art of Rio 2, hopefully an art book for each of their future films will become the standard, much like what Disney and Pixar already does. I love exploring these art books, no matter what the studio is. The Art of Epic was a visual treat, so hopefully this new book will be just as good.

The Art of Rio: Featuring a Carnival of Art From Rio and Rio 2 is published by Titan Books. The book will contain 160 pages and will be released March 11, 2014. Pre-order the book using our Amazon affiliate link.
