After D23, the soundtracks will be available to the public.

According to this schedule, a new soundtrack will be released every month to two months. That's definitely something exciting for Disney fans to look forward to. Pixar's soundtrack's typically have less singing than Disney's, so it makes sense that only one Pixar soundtrack, Toy Story, made the cut. Also, we're going to get a special Disneyland album, which, other than Toy Story, is the only soundtrack to not be a Walt Disney Animation feature film. There have been hundreds of Disney Parks soundtracks released over the years, so it will be interesting to see what new material Disney adds to this one.

Each new album will feature artwork from Walt Disney Animation Studios visual development artist, Lorelay Bove. Bove has worked on films such as Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, and Wreck-It Ralph. She is also one of the artists featured in the new book Lovely: Ladies of Animation, which will be released later this month. According to Disney, "The illustrations, inspired by the original properties, will celebrate Disney's rich heritage and create a unified look for the entire collection."

The first soundtrack to be rereleased is The Lion King, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. This soundtrack will be released June 24, 2014. An animatic of the deleted song "Life's Too Short" appeared a few days ago on YouTube. Apparently the footage was shown at an open lecture at the Beijing Film Academy. The song isn't anything new: it has been around on the Frozen Deluxe soundtrack since November; however, the concept art and corresponding animatic of this scene is.

"Life's Too Short" is basically the older version of the "For the First Time in Forever Reprise." The hook of the song is that "for the first time in forever" Anna understands Elsa and, for Elsa, it's the "first time in forever" that she can be who she is. The clip shows Anna and Elsa's confrontation after Elsa flees Arendelle. Anna trying to convince Elsa to return home, even going as far as trying to give Elsa her old gloves. And ultimately Elsa rejecting that notion and wanting to stay free in her ice palace. The clip ends with Elsa blasting Anna in the heart with her ice powers.

It's really interesting to see this song animated. We get a lot sassier version of Elsa and Anna than what we got in the final film. In the final film, Elsa is usually pretty subdued, except for during "Let It Go." But here, we see Elsa really open up and be a sassafras to her sister Anna. We get to see a more real sister dynamic, while each sister is trying to push their own agenda and desires.

Personally, while I like the character development (especially of Elsa) we get in this scene. I'm not a fan of the tune. It really would have made the musical themes in the film all over the place. "For the First Time in Forever" really does a great job of tying everything together and making the music seem a bit more cohesive. Anna and Elsa's parts in this clip are sung by Kristen Bell and Idina Menzel, respectively, showing that this scene wasn't cut early and must have stayed in the film for quite a while.

Buy "Life's Too Short" on the deluxe soundtrack here.
What do you think of the "Life's Too Short" clip? From Snow White and Tyrus Wong to Marc Davis, each exhibit seems to outdo the one prior. The museum's newest exhibit--MAGIC, COLOR, FLAIR: the world of Mary Blair--is no exception.

This exhibit features art from the incredible and world-renowned Disney artist, Mary Blair and runs through September 7, 2014. The comprehensive show of 200 pieces--from private loaners to the WDFM's own extensive private collection--will give patrons the chance to see new and incredible rare art up close and personal.

Blair was known as one of Walt Disney's personal favorite artists and her art even hung in his home. The exhibit showcases art from her college years, South American trip with Disney, her Disney years and post-Disney career.

The book Magic Color Flair: The World of Mary Blair is a catalog of the exhibit, so if you aren't fortunate enough to visit San Francisco to see the exhibit in person, this is a book is a great consolation prize because it includes every single piece so you won't miss a thing.

The first 40 pages feature less art and more text, mainly a biography of Mary Blair. I liked learning about her childhood, college years, and especially her years after she left the studio. Blair's husband originally worked for Disney and was chosen to go on the "El Grupo" 10-week research trip to South American with Walt, Walt's wife and other Disney studio artists. Blair was able to convince Walt to let her join and while there, she developed her iconic bright and flat style that has become adored by generations.

After this biography section, we then proceed to page after page exploding with art. There is very little text during these sections. Instead you just get to visually absorb the art catalog, as if you were really there at the exhibit yourself. The art is arranged mostly chronologically, which is fascinating to see her progression in style as she matured.

The Mary Blair exhibit, while being presented by the Disney family, isn't entirely focused on her time at the Disney studios and I appreciated that. This fact may disappoint Disney fans who want only to see her Disney-related art, but seeing her other work really made me appreciate her as an artist more.

That being said, you can't help but love the concept art she did for the Disney films such as Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Alice in Wonderland. She also contributed a lot of art to the package films of the 1940s such as Saludos Amigos and Melody Time. Her concept art for these films is so beloved by Disney fans now, it's interesting how much of it never made it into the final products. For this reason, she was ecstatic when she was given creative control over the It's a Small World project, which allowed her design esthetic and vision to come to fruition.

There is another Mary Blair art book in existence called The Art and Flair of Mary Blair, which is also written by John Canemaker. The book has been out of print for a while, but is being updated and re-released later this month. I haven't read that book to compare the two, but will do a review of that book in a few weeks.

Magic Color Flair: The World of Mary Blair is a beautiful book that put any reader in awe. Blair's style is so unique and captivating, it's wonderful that her work has been encapsulated for generations to adore. Whether you get the chance to visit the exhibit or not, Magic Color Flair: The World of Mary Blair is worth the buy.
Purchase

Magic Color Flair: The World of Mary Blair by John Canemaker: Amazon

The Rotoscopers go on a journey to watch Amblimation's final movie, Balto.

Highlights

■ Main discussion: Balto■ Live-action beginning with pigeon lady from Home Alone 2.■ Jim Cummings rocks it as Steele, dog character designs, inspirations from The Lady & the Tramp.■ Really heavy 1st act. That's definitely something exciting for Disney fans to look forward to. Pixar's soundtrack's typically have less singing than Disney's, so it makes sense that only one Pixar soundtrack, Toy Story, made the cut.

According to the press release, this will be a "two-disc set featuring the original motion picture soundtrack, 30 minutes of previously unreleased score, plus liner notes by Don Hahn (producer) and Oscar-winning composer Hans Zimmer." The track list is as follows:

Disc One

1. "Circle of Life/Nants' Ingonyama" Performed by Carmen Twillie, African Vocals Performed by Lebo M
2. "Didn't Your Mother Tell You Not to Play With Your Food" Score
3. "We Are All Connected" Score
4. "Hyenas in the Pride Land" Score
5. "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" Performed by Jason Weaver with Rowan Atkinson and Laura Williams
6. "Elephant Graveyard" Score
7. "I Was Just Trying to Be Brave" Score
8. "Be Prepared" Performed by Jeremy Irons with Whoopi Goldberg, Cheech Marin and Jim Cummings
9. "Simba, It's to Die For" Score
10. "Stampede" Score
11. "Mufasa Dies" Score
12. "If You Ever Come Back We'll Kill You" Score
13. "Bowling for Buzzards" Score
14. "Hakuna Matata" Performed by Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella with Jason Weaver and Joseph Williams
15. "We Gotta Bone to Pick With You" Score
16. "Kings of the Past" Score
17. "Nala, Is It Really You?" Score
18. "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" Performed by Joseph Williams and Sally Dworsky with Nathan Lane, Ernie Sabella and Kristle Edwards
19. "Remember Who You Are" Score
20. "This Is My Home" Score
21. "The Rightful King" Score

Disc Two

1. "The Morning Report" Performed by James Earl Jones, Jeff Bennett and Evan Saucedo
2. "Warthog Rhapsody" Performed by Nathan Lane and Ernie Sabella
3. "We Are All Connected" Score Demo
4. "I Was Just Trying to Be Brave" Score Demo
5. "Stampede" Score Demo
6. "Mufasa Dies" Score Demo
7. "This Is My Home" Score Demo
8. "The Rightful King" Score Demo
9. "Circle of Life" Instrumental Demo
10. "Circle of Life" Performed by Elton John
11. "I Just Can't Wait to Be King" Performed by Elton John
12. "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" (End Title) Performed by Elton John

With the massive success of the Frozen soundtrack this past year (the soundtrack is still number one in its 13th week on the Billboard 200), it's no wonder that Disney has started looking into its musical archives looking for more gold nuggets.

You can pre-order the first soundtrack in the Walt Disney Records The Legacy Collection, The Lion King, on Amazon now.
Which Legacy Collection soundtrack are you most excited about and looking forward to?

Disney Announces The Legacy Collection, Rereleases of 12 Classic Soundtracks such as 'The Lion King', 'Mary Poppins', 'Toy Story' & More
disney-announces-the-legacy-collection-rereleases-of-12-classic-soundtracks-such-as-the-lion-king-mary-poppins-toy-story-more
After the disappointing showing of bonus features on the Frozen Blu-ray, fans shouted foul play, saying that Disney was holding back some key bonus features.

Turns out they were right.
