The-Good-Dinosaur-Logo2Our mockup of Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” logoThe creators of Pixar’s The Good Dinosaur, are finally speaking up and giving some more details about Pixar’s upcoming dino flick. In an interview at the Pixar headquarters in Emeryville, CA, director Bob Peterson, codirector Peter Sohn and producer John Walker divulged more tidbits about film’s inspriration, title, and writing process, while carefully not giving away key plot points.

The Good Dinosaur explores the question, “What if the asteroid never hit and dinosaurs still roamed the earth?”

In talking about his inspiration for the film, Peterson mentioned that seeing anamatronic dinosaurs on a visit to the World’s Fair fascinated him as a child . While Hollywood typically tends to villainize dinosaurs, Petersen said Pixar is going in a different direction saying, “It’s time to do a movie where you get to know the dinosaur, what it’s really like to be a dinosaur and to be with a dinosaur.” (Maybe he forgot about Don Bluth’s animated The Land Before Time, which did cover that topic quite well).

Sohn discusses more about the film’s title, which was revealed at CinemaCon a few weeks ago:

Sohn said they are toying with the idea of what dinosaurs represent today — something anachronistic or resistant to change. If there’s a “good” dinosaur, after all, there have to be bad ones. “The title is deceptively simple,” Sohn said. “It has more meaning than it seems.”

What do you think the title means?
