how-to-train-your-dragon-2-trailer-teenage-hiccupIn a nice surprise, DreamWorks released the first official trailer for How To Train Your Dragon 2, the sequel to the 2010 hit How To Train Your Dragon.

This trailer shows Hiccup and Toothless doing what they do best: flying! The duo are floating through a whimsical, picturesque sky. We get a glimpse of Hiccup wanting to try a new flying contraption, while Toothless is reluctant. While the clip doesn’t show us much of the plot, it is simple and still exciting, especially since we get our first official look at the new, semi-grown up, teenage Hiccup.

While I enjoy seeing Toothless and Hiccup hit the skies again, I couldn’t help but feel bad for Toothless in this trailer. It seems that Hiccup has developed a means of flying that doesn’t include Toothless (in a way making our favorite night fury obsolete). Am I the only one who feels this way? Maybe this is a hint at the plot: Hiccup’s inventive mind gets the best of him and he loses the trust, friendship and partnership of Toothless. Who knows?

Now the best part of this trailer, for me, definitely is seeing teenage Hiccup at the end. Can you say heartthrob? I half expected him to take his helmet off and there to be a slow motion clip of him swishing his hair out of his face. While we did get an unofficial leaked look at some of the other human characters (formerly kids), I can’t wait to see what all the other characters and dragons look like in future trailers!

The minute this trailer came online the internet blew up! It really goes to show how much of a fan base the original film garnered and how truly excited people are to head back into this medieval world of dragons and Vikings.

How To Train Your Dragon 2 soars into theatres next summer on June 20, 2014.

What are your favorite parts from the trailer?
