He can’t do it.

He can’t pilot the Black Lion.

He can’t commandeer the vessel his mentor—his big-brother figure—once flew.

Keith can’t accept his new role as the leader of Voltron.

The former Red Lion pilot has struggled with serving as the literal head of the robot defender ever since season three, and from the looks of a season four clip released at the Voltron: Legendary Defender New York Comic Con panel this past Saturday, he’s still hesitant. Check it out below:

While the clip does show Keith grappling with his new position, it also conveys Shiro’s struggle to accept his new role on the sidelines. This role is a difficult one for Shiro, as the character’s voice actor, Josh Keaton, said at the NYCC panel that a part of Shiro wants to be leader again. The power struggle regarding the leadership position will surely create more tension in Shiro and Keith’s friendship, as audiences already saw some awkwardness brewing between them last season.

Perhaps the most significant moment in this clip comes when Shiro mentions that Keith is training with the Blade of Marmora. This is a new excursion for Keith, and this could be that big decision that leads to division between him and the rest of the team.

Another clip released to the public from NYCC featured Lotor and his four female, Galra-hybrid generals. Take a look:

Lotor seems to be swiftly moving forward with his plans concerning Quintessence and alternate realities. Also, the clip confirms that Honerva, currently known as Haggar, is Lotor’s mother. Now the question is if Lotor knows that Haggar is Honerva.

Two other clips from the NYCC panel leaked online, one featuring Pidge searching for her brother, Matt, and the other starring Allura, Coran, Lance, and Kaltenecker the cow, who Lance milks.

Speaking of Lance, executive producer Joaquim Dos Santos said at the NYCC panel that the fan favorite will work to overcome his insecurities and ego this season. As for Hunk, co-executive producer Lauren Montgomery said he will try to better his skills as a diplomat.

Season four of DreamWorks’ Voltron: Legendary Defender premieres October 13 on Netflix.
