Bob's Burgers family

Move over, Simpsons. There’s another animated family in town and set to take over the big screen.

Yesterday Twentieth Century Fox announced that the company is making a feature-length film based on the popular, award-winning comedy show Bob’s Burgers. The film is currently slated for release on July 17, 2020, and will be produced by Fox Animation.

The Bob’s Burgers series follows the lives of restaurant owner Bob Belcher (voiced by H. Jon Benjamin), his wife Linda (John Roberts) and three children Tina (Dan Mintz), Gene (Eugene Mirman), and Louise (Kristen Schaal), as they continually try to keep the family business from going out of business. It may seem like a simple premise, but the likeable characters and entertaining storylines have clearly gained popularity among both fans and critics alike. The series just won an Emmy for Outstanding Animated Series this year, and received the same award in 2014.

Said show creator Loren Bouchard: “We’re thrilled to be invited to bring Bob’s Burgers to the big screen. We know the movie has to scratch every itch the fans of the show have ever had, but it also has to work for all the good people who’ve never seen the show. We also know it has to fill every inch of the screen with the colors and the sounds and the ever so slightly greasy texture of the world of Bob’s – but most of all it has to take our characters on an epic adventure. In other words, it has to be the best movie ever made. But no pressure, right?!”

The addition of a Bob’s Burgers film to Fox Animation’s film slate goes right in line with the company’s goal of doubling its efforts toward animation and family entertainment in the coming years, said Twentieth Century Fox Film chairman and CEO Stacey Snider.

Likewise, Fox Television Group chairmen Gary Newman and Dana Walden are confident that Twentieth Century Fox Film will handle their much loved property with care.

“Loren, Jim and their talented team continue to knock it out of the park week after week, and seven years in, the show is still growing,” said Newman and Walden. “Working with Stacey and everyone at the feature studio, we know this important property is in the best possible hands.”

Bob’s Burgers has been airing on Fox Television since 2011 and is currently on its eighth season. The series can be viewed on Fox Television and streamed on Hulu.
