Yesterday, genre maestro Guillermo Del Toro will be hosting a masterclass presentation that gave the attending audience a look back on his career as well an exclusive first look at footage from his upcoming DWA-Netflix series Trollhunters. But thanks to a news report that shortly before that, we finally know when the series will premiere, who will be in the recording studio, and who else will be in charge of the show along with Del Toro.

According to Variety, Trollhunters will premiere on Netflix this December. Created and executive-produced by Del Toro, the show is billed as an epic animated ‘event series’ and it will mark Del Toro’s first foray into family-friendly content. The show is set in the fictional suburb of Arcadia, where Jim and his two best friends “make a startling discovery that beneath their hometown lies a hidden battle between good trolls and bad, the outcome of which will impact their lives forever,” DreamWorks Animation and Netflix said about the series in a statement to Variety.

Unlike most of the other DWA-Netflix shows, Trollhunters will have some rather impressive A-list talent heading up the cast. Anton Yelchin (of Star Trek fame) will voice the lead role of Jim. TV vet Kelsey Grammer will lend his voice to the role of a character described as a “kindly troll who helps Jim.” Ron Pearlman, a Del Toro regular, will utilize his impressive vocals in the role of Bular, described as “a sinister troll who targets Jim and his friends for battle.”

Del Toro has also assembled an equally impressive lineup of creative talent from across the TV landscape to help him run the show. Joining him as executive producers are Marc Guggenheim (The CW’s Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow) and Christina Steinberg (Rise of the Guardians), while Dan and Kevin Hageman (The LEGO Movie, writers on The LEGO Ninjago Movie) are co-executive producers. Chad Hammes (Dragons: Race to the Edge) is also serving as producer.

We’ll learn more about Trollhunters during the scheduled masterclass. (NOTE: stay tuned for that article tomorrow).

What do you think? Are you looking forward to Trollhunters?
