Fueled by the success of a certain movie about a popular toy brand, an Australian VFX/animation company expanded its operations.

As reported by Animation Magazine, Animal Logic recently opened its doors to a new 45,000 square foot facility in Vancouver, Canada. Sharon Taylor, the studio’s former Group Head of Production, will now serve as the EVP and General Manager of their Vancouver studio.

The opening comes just in time, as the facility is currently staffing for The LEGO Movie Sequel, set to begin production there as early as January of next year. Two other yet to be announced films will also be produced at the Vancouver studio as part of a three-picture deal with Warner Bros. LEGO Batman and LEGO Ninjago will commence production at Animal Logic’s main Sydney studio.

Animal Logic has a storied history of collaborating with Warner Bros. on animated films. Prior to The LEGO Movie, Animal Logic provided animation services on films such as Happy Feet 1 and 2 and Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga’Hoole.

Looking at Warner Animation Group’s current slate of films planned for the near future (more specifically, non-LEGO films), we can only do mere guesswork as to which projects could be the two films that will be handled by Animal Logic’s new Vancouver facility. Next year will bring us WAG’s first original animated project Storks, while 2018 will also bring us an untitled original feature. Not to mention, Warner Bros. announced a round of projects based on some of their animated TV properties, so any one of those could be possibilities as well.

Clearly, this all but illustrates that Animal Logic has had (so far) a fruitful relationship with Warner Bros. While it remains a possibility that the latter will want to reach out to other studios for their services, it would appear that its collaboration with Animal Logic won’t burn out anytime soon.
