Ladies and gentlemen, it’s finally here.
Today, DreamWorks Animation gives us the first full-length (English) trailer for Kung Fu Panda 3.
Watch the trailer here:
The trailer opens with a scene that will look familiar to fans of the franchise: an awesome training sequence that shows the various members of the Furious Five doing what they do best (which ends with Po doing what he does best).
But, shortly afterward, the trailer takes an intriguing turn and shows us the very first meeting between Po and Li Shan (Po’s dad). What takes place is a back-and-forth between the two characters that is unexpectedly earnest (with an undercurrent of humor, as well). We are also given interesting insight into the character of Po’s dad and how he is different (and not so different) from his son. It’s a distinct character moment that separates this trailer from the more action-packed Chinese teaser.
This trailer doesn’t show us much, but it does do exactly what a teaser is supposed to do. Also, Bryan Cranston’s voice work is impeccable.
Kung Fu Panda 3 is directed by Jennifer Yuh Nelson and Alessandro Carloni from a screenplay by Jonathan Aibel and Glenn Berger. The film features the voice talents of Jack Black (Po), Angelina Jolie (Tigress), Dustin Hoffman (Master Shifu), Lucy Liu (Viper), Seth Rogen (Mantis), Jackie Chan (Monkey), David Cross (Crane), James Hong (Mr. Ping), and Randall Duk Kim as Master Oogway. New to the cast are Rebel Wilson as Mei Mei, Bryan Cranston as Li, and J.K.Simmons in an unknown role. No voice actor has yet to be announced for the character of Kai.
Kung Fu Panda 3 lands in theaters on January 29, 2016.
