Stop-motion studio LAIKA auctioned everything from puppets to props on February 12 at Heritage Auctions in Beverly Hills and gained over $1 million. The highest selling item at $50,190 was a puppet of the ‘Other Mother’ from their first feature film Coraline.
The Art of LAIKA auction sold more than 250 items altogether. Jim Lentz, director of animation art at Heritage, said there was a great response for these items. “It’s just crazy. And I think it’s a love of these movies. It all goes back to the films.”
Amongst the biggest selling items were a puppet of Coraline in her signature blue silver-starred sweater which sold for $23,900, a puppet of Norman from their second feature film ParaNorman which sold for $28,680 and a puppet of Archibald Snatcher from their third feature film The Boxtrolls which sold for $23,900. A percentage of the the proceeds go to the non-profit art organisation The Art of Elysium.
