In quite a delectable surprise, Disney has released a 53-second preview of its new animated short film Feast, which is set to play in front of Big Hero 6 on November 7. As expected, it’s quite adorable.

Directed by Patrick Osborne and the product of a new in-house program that lets employees pitch short-film ideas to John Lasseter’s story trust, the official synopsis reads as follows: “Feast is the story of one man’s love life as seen through the eyes of his best friend and dog, Winston, and revealed bite by bite through the meals they share.”

A combination of 2D/CG animation, Feast’s style and aesthetic certainly look pleasing to the eyes. Not surprising given that the director was head of animation for Paperman); however, I’m sure that it will only be the icing on the cake that is the simple yet effective and universal theme of the bond between a dog and his owner (that and it will probably be a lot of fun seeing Winston eat anything and everything that come across his path).

If the short film’s roaring success at this year’s Annecy International Film Festival is any indication, this could be the project that could Patrick Osborne on the path towards helming his feature-length films (possibly even using the same 2D/3D blend that made Paperman and Feast so unique). Only time will tell, but I absolutely won’t be surprised if that happens.

What do you think of ‘Feast’ so far? Are you looking forward to more films in this style?
