Last week, a members’ only email from Disney Movies Anywhere hinted that we would get to see a sneak peek of Pixar’s next film Inside Out sometime this week. Looks like today was the lucky day that the exclusive behind-the-scenes look of the film broke!

The clip was tied to the called the Pixar Summer Movies to Go! promotion that Disney Movies Anywhere has been running all summer; part of this included some exclusive bonus videos called the “Pixar’s Ultimate Countdown of Secrets”. Each week for 14 weeks, the site would release a short video detailing a few secrets found in each of Pixar’s 14 films. This week’s video rounded off the series with “1 Fact About Monsters University + a Peek at Inside Out.”

At 1:58 of the clip, the Inside Out portion starts. We see director Pete Doctor and producer Jonas Rivera as they guide us through parts of the film, ranging from the main human character Riley to her five dominant emotions, Anger, Fear, Sadness, Disgust and Joy.

We knew that Riley was an 11-year-old girl, but didn’t know much about what she looked like. From this sneak peak, we now know that she’s a brownish-blonde with blue eyes and uneven teeth (that are still growing in). The design is very “Pixar”, as she looks like she could fit right in with other humans from the Pixar universe. Her final render is beautiful and the animation really shows off her emotion. Watch as she starts off a bit confused, then surprised, then ecstatic! If this clip is any indication, the character animation in Inside Out is going to be top notch!

We have seen the designs of the emotion characters, but this was the first time we saw them in action. These characters are really going to stand out from the humans because their animation be a lot more cartoony. In the clip, they talked about how the animation team harkened back to the old cartoons from the golden age of animation, focusing on classical animation principles such as squash and stretch. We even get to see these techniques in action as Joy i throwing a marshmallow at Anger.

Inside Out hits theatres on June 19, 2015.
