With some news and stills released from this movie earlier this week and the release of How to Train Your Dragon 2 later this week we could’ve guessed that a first trailer for DreamWorks’ upcoming The Penguins of Madagascar would debut this week and it did. In collaboration with Moviefone, DreamWorks Animation released a first trailer for this upcoming spy adventure.

This first trailer doesn’t focus much on the actual plot of the film, but rather on the humor and jokes, which is just fine for a first trailer (Frozen did it and that movie turned out pretty well). Overall I didn’t feel annoyed by the jokes and they actually quite entertained me. I did miss the villain of the film in this trailer as he’ll be an important character in this movie. So why is he missing here? Was it because they really wanted to focus on the jokes and gags in this trailer or is there another reason to it?

Classified (Benedict Cumberbatch) and his crew of awesome animal spies

Something else the trailer really focuses on is Classified and his crew of animal spies. Classified the wolf will be voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, snow owl Eva will be voiced by Annet Mahendru, seal Short Fuse will be voiced by Ken Jeong and lastly Norwegian bear Corporal voiced by Peter Stormare.

I really enjoyed the scenes with them in the trailer and I really like them. They’re funny, cute and I bet they all have amazing spy skills which DreamWorks will keep a secret until the very end, not to forget the fun designs and wonderful animation. I can’t wait to see more of them in future promotion and DreamWorks please make a plushies out of these characters!

”Skipper (Tom McGrath), Kowalski (Chris Miller), Rico (John DiMaggio) and Private (Christopher Knights) join forces with a super-secret animal organization called North Wind to fight a many-tentacled menace named Dave, an octopus who has made it his mission to kill off all the penguins. (Dave is voiced by John Malkovich.)”
