First Trailer Released for ‘Turbo: F.A.S.T’

Like we reported earlier this year the first original children’s television series from Netflix will be a spin-off based on the recent DreamWorks Animation film Turbo. The TV show will be the start of a big collaboration between DreamWorks and Netflix. Though I really enjoyed Turbo, I don’t think this spin-off series is really necessary  although seeing it’s 2D animation makes me really excited.

The new 2D animated series is called Turbo: F.A.S.T, which means Turbo: Fast Action Stunt Team (as can be seen in the trailer below), which will continue where the film left off. The TV series will follow the adventures of Turbo and his friends while they are traveling around the world and in the meanwhile learning new race stunts.

This new trailer shows us the 2D character designs and 2D animation, which look great for a TV show. Together with Turbo director David Soren, the makers of the TV series tried to turn the 3D characters in 2D characters as good as possible. A lot of inspiration for the 2D designs can be found in the concept art from the film in The Art of Turbo.

At launch, there will be 56 11-minute episodes available. But DreamWorks already confirmed that there are 300 episodes in production right now. Personally, I think 300 episodes is a little bit too much because Turbo F.A.S.T will probably get boring after watching a few episodes. But either way, I’m interested to see how big of a success it will actually be. It may be hard to gauge success in traditional terms, since this series won’t be running on traditional network or cable TV stations. Turbo F.A.S.T will be available in 40 countries where Netflix service is available.

Turbo: F.A.S.T will release this December on Netflix.

Are you excited to see the characters from Turbo in a 2D animated Netflix series?
