It’s Bigfoot! LAIKA surprised us with our first real peak at their new film Missing Link and it looks pretty fantastic.

New Trailer

The trailer introduces the film’s premise with Sir Lionel Frost (Hugh Jackman) discovering Bigfoot, er, Mr. Link ((Zach Galifianakis) in the forests of the Pacific Northwest. He learns that the creature can talk and takes him home where he attempts to stealthily integrate him into society (clothes and all). The film feels a bit like Aardman’s Early Man, which had a similar fish-out-of-water premise. Missing Link will focus on the connection between Mr. Link and our early ancestors and an adventure to find more of Mr. Link’s kind.

Missing Link‘s aesthetic and character design is very on brand for what we’ve come to expect from LAIKA. But with each film comes a bit of a design twist and we’re loving Mr. Link’s smooth, scale-like fur, which is particularly appealing.

New Poster

The poster shows Mr. Link looking dapper in his new digs, complete with a green bowtie. His sweater and dress shirt may be a tad bit small, but hopefully no one will notice.

New Still

The still features the film’s main trio–Sir Lionel Frost, Mr. Link, and Zoe Saldana (Adelina Fortnight)–dressed in their Sunday best.

Directed and written by LAIKA veteran Chris Butler (ParaNorman), Missing Link features a star-studded voice cast of Hugh Jackman, Zoe Saldana, and Zach Galifianakis. Timothy Olyphant, David Walliams, Emma Thompson, Matt Lucas, Ching Valdes-Aran, Stephen Fry, and Amrita Acharia are also voicing key characters.

Synopsis:

This April, meet Mr. Link: 8 feet tall, 630 lbs, and covered in fur, but don’t let his appearance fool you… he is funny, sweet, and adorably literal, making him the world’s most lovable legend at the heart of Missing Link, the globe-trotting family adventure from LAIKA. Tired of living a solitary life in the Pacific Northwest, Mr. Link recruits fearless explorer Sir Lionel Frost to guide him on a journey to find his long-lost relatives in the fabled valley of Shangri-La. Along with adventurer Adelina Fortnight, our fearless trio of explorers encounter more than their fair share of peril as they travel to the far reaches of the world to help their new friend. Through it all, the three learn that sometimes you can find a family in the places you least expect.

Missing Link hits theatres April 12, 2019.

What do you think about the first full look at LAIKA’s Missing Link? Are you excited to see the film?
