The term ‘Based on a True Story’ in films can certainly be applied in a loose sense, in that the backbone of the real life events are certainly there, but there are certainly some creative liberties taken. And Balto is a case where that term is once again applied very loosely. The movie is based on the real life story of a sled dog who led a team of other dogs on the 1925 serum run to Nome to help transport an antitoxin to treat diphtheria. The movie essentially does follow that story, but again there’s certainly some minor liberties taken. But do these differences necessarily make it a bad movie? Find out in the full review coming soon!
