Ready for a trip to Middle-earth? Our next indie-mation film is the animated film The Lord of the Rings, directed by Ralph Bakshi and released in 1978. This high-fantasy movie comprises J. R. R. Tolkien’s first two books in the trilogy: The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers. Now a cult classic, the animated The Lord of the Rings film is famous most notably for its extensive use of rotoscoping, where footage was shot in live action and then traced onto animation cels. Check out the full review of The Lord of the Rings next Monday!
