Attention anime fans! A new US trailer has been released for an upcoming anime film called Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms. This film is a debut for anime screenwriter Mari Okada and it looks like it has a lot of potential. It’s exciting to see female directors like Okada and Naoko Yamada (A Silent Voice) come to the forefront and get these impressive projects.

Hopefully Okada will bring her screenwriting background into the story of Maquia. It is about a young girl who lives in a tribe of immortal people that looks kind of like Rivendell from Lord of the Rings. Evidently Maquia’s village gets invaded and imprisoned and she must work to save her people, along with caring for a baby she finds along the way. Lord of the Rings meet Willow maybe?

Fantasy isn’t usually my favorite but I enjoy it when it is done well, so hopefully that will be the case here. The animation certainly looks gorgeous and it looks like it could have a lot of heart to the story especially with the cute baby being involved. The music from veteran composer Kenji Kawai also looks strong.

I’m definitely looking forward to Maquia: When the Promised Flower Blooms. What about you? Does the trailer intrigue you? It is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 20th, and I will be in line to watch!
