Disney Channel Series for 2019

Having long since provided an outlet for creative cartoons, Disney Channel is about to transport viewers to two whole new worlds and invite them back into another in 2019.

Disney Channel has greenlit two brand-new animated programs targeting kid audiences. The first, a comedy titled Amphibia, stars self-centered thirteen-year-old Anne Boonchuy as she is magically transported to a marshland populated by frog people. There she meets and presumably befriends a young frog named Sprig, who helps her develop into a hero. Amphibia was created and will be executively produced by Matt Braly of the highly successful Disney series Gravity Falls.

The second show, The Owl House, also features a young female protagonist who’s swept into an alternate world. Teenage Luz accidentally finds a portal to the Demon Realm, where she befriends rebellious witch Eda and tiny warrior King. Even though she’s just a human with no magical abilities, Luz chases her dream of becoming a witch by training under Eda at The Owl House, where she finds family in an unexpected place. This horror-comedy series was created and will be executively produced by Dana Terrace of the DuckTales reboot.

Viewers will also be able to return to the dimension of Mewni in the fourth season of popular series Star Vs. The Forces of Evil, which debuted on Disney Channel in 2015. The show follows teenage Princess Star Butterfly, who is sent to Earth to live with human Marco Diaz and his family when Star proves she’s not yet ready to rule over Mewni. While on Earth, Star and Marco work together to protect Star’s magical wand from falling into the hands of the villainous Ludo, who commands a monster army from Mewni. The newest season will have the two friends exploring Mewni and other dimensions that Star is able to access via portal-opening Dimensional Scissors.

All three shows are slated to air on Disney Channel in 2019.

Since she was young, Amber has enjoyed escaping to faraway worlds through animation, and has continued to follow animation into adulthood because of its limitless storytelling possibilities. Picking favorites is nearly impossible, but Amber would say her top animated films include The Little Mermaid, The Incredibles, The Emperor’s New Groove, and Frozen. She graduated with a B.A. in Interactive Media/Graphic Design and a minor in Journalism, and is currently working as an advertising designer. When she’s not at her day job, Amber can be found working on digital illustrations and photo edits, drafting a new fiction story, or crafting a new cosplay. Send her a tweet at @amber_ld.
