Today was the first day of the D23 Expo 2017 in Anaheim, CA, which means we are going to have nonstop news all weekend from the Disney exclusive event.

The first big reveal came directly from the Chief Creative Offices of Walt Disney Animation Studios and Pixar Animation Studios himself, John Lasseter, and revolves around Pixar’s new film Incredibles 2. According to Lasseter, the sequel starts where the original Incredibles film left off, putting us right back in the action of our favorite superhero family.

In his interview with IGN, he mentions that only “a minute” has passed since the original:

“It starts right as the first one finishes, so it just carries on. It starts with the Underminer and a big old set piece. You know that at the end of the first movie when he comes up and you see the family dressed as superheroes, well that’s where start this movie.”

Regarding the story, he mentioned:

“One of the unique things about the Incredibles is it’s really a story of a family set in the world of superheroes. This one carries on that theme,” he said. “It’s awesome, the idea we came up with — simple as that. … We love to really look at our own lives and look at what’s going on, and find themes that we know will resonate with the audience.”

We also got some tidbits about Jack Jack, the Parr’s infant son. Looks like we’re going to see more of him in this film:

“Jack Jack is fantastic in Incredibles 2. He is hilarious. He’s so funny.”

In the interview, he talked about a range of things from Coco and Olaf’s Frozen Adventure to Pixar’s sequel strategy and future.

What do you think about this news about The Incredibles 2? Are you excited to see the sequel start where the first one left off?
