Some of you who stick to animated movies may not be aware we have a new Disney princess. Last summer, Disney’s first Latina princess was crowned from the world of TV: Elena of Avalor. At first, I was a little skeptical of a TV princess, but then I watched the show and it is actually really good. One of the standouts of the show is its strong music. Recently, a new digital soundtrack was released and I highly recommend checking it out.

There are two soundtracks available: one is a CD with only seven songs and the other is digital with 23 songs. As there is only $2 difference in cost, I recommend the latter! The 23 songs cover the first season of the show that ran from July 20, 2016 to December 10, 2016. It’s pretty impressive to have 23 songs in such a brief time period. It has also been renewed for second and third seasons, so there will be much more music to enjoy.

The key to any music working is, of course, the quality of the singers and songwriting, and, fortunately, both of those are in fine form here. The songs are written by Craig Gerber, John Kavanaugh, Tony Morales, and Rene Camacho, who is the Latin music consultant. I’m no expert, but the arrangements have a Broadway feel with Latin flair that is a whole lot of fun.

The vocal cast is also very strong with the theme sung by Grammy award winner Gaby Moreno and Elena’s singing done by her voice actress, Aimee Carrero. Both are first rate, as is the rest of the cast

Here are a few videos to give you an idea of a couple of the songs:

It’s easy to dismiss shows on Disney Channel as just for kids, especially when it is tied to Sophia the First, like Elena is, but trust me – this is good for the entire family and the soundtrack is great. It’s under $10 on iTunes, Amazon (CD here, Digital here), and any other digital retailers, so give it a shot. I think you will like it!

What do you think of the Elena of Avalor soundtrack? Let us know in the comments!
