Long Way North, or Tout en Haut du Monde, is a 2015 French/Danish animated feature film directed by Remi Chaye who was also the assistant director of The Painting (2011) and The Secret of Kells (2009).

This film tells the story of Sasha, a young aristocrat, living in Saint Petersburg, Russia, around 1882. Sasha has long been fascinated by her grandfather’s life as an adventurer. He designed a majestic arctic ship called The Davai, but sadly, he has not returned from his last expedition. Sasha decides to run away towards the North Pole in hopes of locating The Davai and restore her family’s honour.

The plot of Long Way North is similar to Disney’s Mulan. It tells the tale of a female heroine trying to escape the life that constrains her from letting loose and setting off on an adventure to restore her family’s name. This movie’s theme is mainly adventure but with an abundance of heart and emotion.

chilling again!

Throughout the movie, Sasha is a very likable heroine and her development becomes enjoyable to watch. Sasha evolves from being a pampered, gentle, well-mannered princess to a hard working, risk-taker who leads sailor men on an adventure.

Long Way North has beautiful animation, great character development, and compelling story told through European culture and history. This indie, animated gem is a treat for animation lovers old and young.

Here is the trailer below (French dub with English subs):

This film will release on DVD on Amazon.co.uk in October, 2016, which will contain an English dub, distributed by Soda Pictures.
