We learned from Cartoon Brew that the teaser trailer for the upcoming Chinese-American animated film, Rock Dog, has debuted.

The film is based on a Chinese graphic novel called Tibetan Rock Dog which is about “a Tibetan Mastiff who dreams of being a rock star against the wishes of his father, who wants him to follow in his footsteps as a guard dog.”

Although the film is being produced by Chinese companies (Huayi Brothers and Mandoo Pictures), the animation of the film was sent “to be made at Dallas, Texas-based Reel FX” Studios. It’s one of the first cases in which animation was outsourced to be made in America as opposed to the usual trend of America outsourcing its animation to be made in other countries.

The film will be directed by the American animator/director, Ash Brannon (Toy Story 2 and Surf’s Up) and will be in the English language. The voice cast includes stars such as Luke Wilson, Eddie Izzard, J.K. Simmons, and Lewis Black, among others.

It’s set to be released in China on July 8, 2016. As of now, there is no information available as to international release dates.
