Stoopid Buddy Studios has announced a new stop-motion animated series called Buddy Thunderstruck that will premiere worldwide on Netflix in 2017.
American Greetings Entertainment has teamed up with Stoopid Buddy Stoodios, the company that brought us the award-winning series Robot Chicken and their new superhero themed series SuperMansion. They describe themselves as “an artist-friendly collective that houses some of the finest talent in all of animation” that has “a knack for creating unique visuals and telling character driven stories with an uncanny sensibility.”
Unfortunately for us there aren’t any concept art or promotional stills at this point, but there is a sprinkling of detail to keep us interested:
‘Buddy Thunderstruck’ will be an action-comedy, stop-motion extravaganza that follows the adventures of a semi-truck racing dog named Buddy and his albino ferret mechanic. It all goes down in race-obsessed Greasepit, a place chock full of larger-than-life characters and nitro-burning, gear-slamming, tire-squealing, fish-tailing good times.
Stoopid Buddy Stoodios has catered to both children and adults, so it is unclear which audience the studio’s new project is aimed towards. Even Netflix has animated shows for both adults, such as BoJack Horseman, and children, such as Dawn of the Croods and even a Green Eggs and Ham series. It is certainly clear that Netflix is the front runner for new original animated television series at the moment. Let’s hope Buddy Thunderstruck will be positive addition to look out for.
Buddy Thunderstruck will be released worldwide exclusively on Netflix in 2017 with a 12-episode season.
