Ladies and gentlemen, it finally happened. The sequel to what is arguably one of the best Pixar films of all time now has something we have all wanted to see: a release date.
As part of a larger developing news story, Disney revealed (and shuffled) the launch dates for much of its upcoming films. As a result, we now know The Incredibles 2 will arrive in theaters on June 21, 2019.
“I have the story arc,” Brad Bird told Collider at the press event for The Iron Giant: Signature Edition. “I’m probably three-quarters through the script, first pass through the script, but we’re already boarding parts of it,” he continued. “I’ve got a lot of people that worked on the first one working on it, so we’re all having a good time with it.”
As you can clearly tell from the release date and Brad’s comments, it will be a while before we see anything approximating plot details or even new footage for The Incredibles 2. It should be worth the wait, as The Incredibles 2 is one of the most highly-anticipated animated films of this generation. If it took us eleven years to get firm confirmation the movie will really happen, then what is the harm in giving Brad and his crew another five to make the best film possible?
