Next Friday, DreamWorks Animation and Netflix will bring Jay Ward’s iconic time traveling duo back to television in The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show. As per the show’s premise (Mr. Peabody and Sherman host a late night talk show from their apartment, complete with time displaced guests and musical acts), there will definitely be a musical component. And, when you have music, there’s bound to be a soundtrack nearby.
Under the Radar magazine broke the news recently that the soundtrack for The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show series will be available for digital download this Friday (October 2) from Lakeshore Records. Those wishing for a physical release will have to wait until December.

The album will feature songs from a number of different artists from multiple genres, ranging from indie pop/rock groups like Jukebox the Ghost and Ra Ra Riot to hip hop talents like rapper Wordsworth and producer Prince Paul to solo acts like JD McPherson. The album also includes the series score, composed by production team The Outfit.
Under the Radar also provided an exclusive free track from the album, titled “Black Hole” from Jukebox the Ghost. After giving a good listen or two, I can accurately conclude that it definitely fits the colorful, buoyant, and wacky atmosphere that the show promises to deliver both in its eccentric subject matter (the song is about black holes, after all) and its light, airy composition.
“When we got the call to write a song for Peabody and Sherman about black holes, my head nearly exploded for two reasons,” explains Jukebox’s Tommy Siegel. “One, I fancy myself a cartoonist (not a professional) and have always dreamed of our band being turned into cartoons. Bucket list item: accomplished. Two, I am always looking for any excuse to write music about outer space phenomenon. In short, it was a true honor to be commissioned to write a goofy rock song for these incredible animators and I can’t wait to binge-watch their creation!”
The Mr. Peabody & Sherman Show will premiere exclusively for Netflix on October 9 (13 episodes in all). Chris Parnell takes over the role of Mr. Peabody from Ty Burrell (who voiced the character in the 2014 movie), while Max Charles will reprise his role from the film as Sherman.
Once again, the soundtrack will be available this Friday for digital download (a link to purchase the album will be added later). A physical release is set for December.
