According to Deadline, the worldwide Japanese phenomenon, Hello Kitty, is set to have her own feature film in 2019. Designed by Yuko Shimizu in 1974, the be-whiskered cat with a bow in her hair reached her 40th anniversary last year. While the popular franchise has seen itself adapted as various television series over the years, this would be the first film adaptation of the franchise.
The film is being made by the parent company, Sanrio, and set to “go through Sanrio’s recently established U.S. subsidiary”. It also seems to be an expensive film having a budget of “anywhere from $160 million-$240 million”. No other production details are known at this time.
