Disney Updates ‘Moana’ Concept Art

Later this Summer, Disney will once again host a D23 Expo in Anaheim, California. During the Expo the studio will host several panels, screenings, and previews for Disney fans and this year ‘The Upcoming Films of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios’ panel will obviously return. During the panel Disney filmmakers will show never before seen footage from upcoming films like The Good Dinosaur, Finding Dory, Zootopia and of course Disney’s highly anticipated Moana.

On the D23 website, where this announcement was made, Disney also revealed an updated version of the Moana concept art that was released last year when the film was officially announced. While most of the concept art remains the same, a few changes were made.

While the updated piece of concept art is very similar to the old piece, some changes were made to Moana, Maui, and their raft. The characters do not look as painterly as they did in the original piece, but rather like a rendered image. They also look more detailed and it looks like the character’s final designs, which we will also see in the final movie, were used in this new concept art.

During her incredible journey, she teams up with her hero, the legendary demi-god Maui, to traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous sea creatures, breathtaking underworlds and ancient folklore.”

Disney’s Moana, directed by Ron Clements and John Musker, hits theaters November 23, 2016.
