In 2006, Sony Pictures Animation produced their first film, Open Season. The film focused on a domestic bear named Boog, voiced by Martin Lawrence, a wild deer named Elliot, voiced by Ashton Kutcher, and the adventure they would have battling hunters while developing a friendship. The film was successful enough to make Sony Pictures Animation a major player in the animation industry creating future films such as the The Smurfs series, Hotel Transylvania, and Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs.
The film also spawned two direct-to-DVD sequels, Open Season 2 and Open Season 3, released in 2009 and 2011, respectively. Now, according to Animation Magazine, a third sequel is planned for the series. Open Season: Scared Silly is said to be about Elliott and other woodland creatures helping Boog feel less afraid about the so-called Wailing Wampus Werewolf that apparently lives in the forest.
The film is being directed by David Feiss (Cow and Chicken, Super Manny, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2: Earl Scouts) and produced by John Bush (The SImpsons, Family Guy). The film is set to be released in Spring 2016.
