OBLIGATORY COWABUNGA! Nickelodeon’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is, in this reviewer’s humble opinion, one of the most entertaining cartoons out there right now and I’m happy to review this TMNT mini-compilation DVD, Pulverizer Power.

TMNT: Pulverizer Power follows the story of a deluded, chubby Ninja Turtles fanboy/wannabe crime fighter who calls himself The Pulverizer (voiced by voice acting veteran Roger Craig Smith). In addition to stalking the turtles in his attempts to learn their ninja secrets, he gets in the way as they battle Dr. Baxter, the Foot Clan, and other mutants. Eventually he learns (the hard way) that being as great as the turtles takes work, dedication, and humility.

This compilation DVD contains 3 episodes scattered throughout the TMNT series. Rather than featuring several episodes in sequence, the content is organized by subject matter (in this case, the hapless Pulverizer). I was a little disappointed by this format since it seems you can get more bang for your buck if you purchase the “complete season” compilations, which are rife with special features.

Unfortunately, this DVD set doesn’t have any special features whatsoever. Zippo. Nada. You get three episodes and that’s it. Still, it serves as a quick fix for die-hard TMNT fans young and old.

I mean, at least they're recycling.

As for the Pulverizer story arc, I was just as satisfied as always with all the humor, action, and weirdness that I’ve come to love about Nick’s TMNT series. The Pulverizer story does more than just feature a goofy loser who is obsessed with his heroes. It’s also a cautionary tale about responsibility and the awful effects of taking shortcuts in life.

That, and it features one of the most disturbing and creepy mutants I have ever seen in the TMNT saga (and after reviewing the Retreat! timeline, this says a lot).
