Yesterday, The Hollywood Reporter unveiled two new actresses who have officially joined the voice cast of the sequel to DreamWorks’ 2013 hit film The Croods. The original voice cast including Emma Stone, Nicolas Cage, and Ryan Reynolds are all set to return in The Croods 2, and Leslie Mann and Kat Dennings have joined the cast as two new characters.

Mann is supposed to play the matriarch of a new rival family that will be introduced in the sequel, and Dennings is playing the daughter of this new family, a character whose instinct to hunt is being suppressed.

Mann is no stranger to voice acting as she also had some small roles in animated films such as Rio and Mr. Peabody & Sherman. Dennings has previously done some voice acting on shows such as American Dad but this is her first role in a major animated feature. Both Chris Sanders and Kirk De Micco, directors and screenwriters of the original Croods film, are returning to the director’s chair.

In a joint statement, DreamWorks co-presidents of feature animation Bonnie Arnold and Mireille Soria said “Kat Dennings and Leslie Mann are both brilliant comedic actresses, and we’re so excited to add them to the mix for The Croods 2, where they’ll join an already stellar and hilarious returning cast including Emma Stone and Nicolas Cage,”.

DreamWorks’ The Croods 2 hits theaters on December 22, 2017.

What do you think of this announcement? Are you excited for ‘The Croods 2’?
