While several upcoming animated films (Inside Out, The Little Prince, and Ratchet & Clank, among others) are enjoying early bird premieres at the Cannes Film Festival, one animated feature was recently pitched around with the help of a big name talent.
Courtesy of Deadline and Screen Daily, we have learned that Double Dutch International (DDI) brought the animated feature Home Field to the festival and is currently selling the domestic and international rights for the film to potential buyers.
Vince Vaughn will serve as executive producer for the film under his Wild West Picture Show production banner. He will be joined by Peter Billingsley and Victoria Vaughn, who are also producers for Wild West Picture Show.
Based on a screenplay written by DreamWorks Dragons writer/producer team Mike and Linda Teverbaugh, the film’s plot will revolve around a group of outcast birds who must protect their home (a colony that lives under the stands of a baseball stadium) with the help of Mac, a golden eagle.
The film will be animated by Awesometown Entertainment, a studio that currently has a production deal with DDI and is also animating the upcoming film Animal Crackers. Dan Krech will produce for the studio.
“We’re thrilled to partner with the amazing comedic talents at Wild West Picture Show and announce Home Field as the next film in our ongoing slate with the amazing animators at Awesometown Entertainment,” said DDI president Jason Moring.
“Working with Victoria and Peter at Wild West to develop this project has been a great pleasure,” said Krech, “and we are looking forward to making these characters come to life on the big screen.”
The cast and director of Home Field will be announced soon, presumably sometime after the film has settled with a US distributor.
We will keep you posted on everything else animation related from this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
What do you think? Are you looking forward to Home Field?
